Cities all over the world will soon be a part of the World Urban Campaign.

An exciting challenge has been announced! An open, global competition to design an attractive, recognizable and memorable logo for the World Urban Campaign, symbolizing its initiatives and representatives. The three finalists will be flown to Rio de Janeiro for the World Urban Forum in March, and all three will receive a cash prize between $2000 and $5000. Closing date for entries is March 1st, 2010.

mondofragilis group is proud to have been part of the WUC starting on day one as author of the WUCs first strategy paper, and will play a large part at the launch of the Campaign in Rio. Our creative company, messaggio studios, are well on their way in the preparations of design and audio-visual material for the launch and we are excited to see what this call for entries for the logo competition will bring.

The WUC came about as a response to the realization that the city can and must be at the centre of the solution to many of today’s major global issues. The second and third decades of the 21st Century are an unprecedented moment in human history. The population of the world during this period will move from 50% to 70% urban. The movement is irreversible. Without a collaborative, sustainable approach to all aspects of this rapid urbanization, the process will cause more harm than good. Working together, with the WUC as a platform and network, new urban communities, those who live there and those who have an impact in this development, can set precedents, develop tools and offer policy options to meet the urban challenge.

The task for graphic designers out there is to come up with a logo that encapsulates this crucial project. Get creating!
