World Urban Forum 5

Anna Tibaijuka opens the World Urban Forum 5 in Rio de Janeiro.

mondofragilis group is again at the heart of the World Urban Campaign, this time at the steering committee meeting and launch events in Rio de Janeiro at the World Urban Forum (WUF5). As well as sitting on the steering committee, group president, Giray, will chair a debate at the Business Caucus during the forum and will be the first speaker at the closing ceremony on Friday. messaggio studios and natura print have designed and produced exciting printed documents for the Campaign, alongside producing a highly energetic video which will be unveiled at the closing ceremony on Friday, March 26 - watch this space to see the video on mondofragilis.net and across the web!

The World Urban Campaign aims to achieve resilient, sustainable urban communities by engaging partners from public, private and social sectors worldwide . Giray wrote the initial strategy for the Campaign late 2008, and since the first meeting of the steering committee in December 2009 the Campaign’s partners have already worked impressively to get the Campaign up and going. Many new partners have already come on board as the Campaign rapidly grows in size and momentum. On the collaborative Campaign projects, in advance of the launch, two first important ventures are already well underway:

The first common effort of the Campaign is the 100 Cities Initiative: It aims to share innovative urban practices by encouraging and mobilizing people, communities, municipal officials, service providers and political leaders of any city to tell their story about how they are contributing to a better and more sustainable city. The initiative already has 8 pioneering cities and some 25 who have already signed up. To read their stories visit www.100citiesinitiative.org

Citiscope - www.citiscope.org: a global news site - has also been launched in association with the Campaign. This site is a tool to share positive and progressive news about urban projects and expert news.

mondofragilis will be at the WUF all week along with more than 18,000 people from all sectors and all countries. For more news on mondofragilis and the WUC in Rio, keep checking the mondofragilis news.

mondofragilis group senior staff are, once again, very present in many aspects of the World Urban Forum.
