Loss of a friend
Chris Powell doing what he did best.
We were very saddened by the loss of Chris Powell of the World Health Organization.
Chris was a good friend and esteemed colleague. He was a senior communications officer with WHO in Geneva and was instrumental in my rapprochement with Dr. Peter Boyle of the International Agency for Research on Cancer. He was certain we would get along, which we did.
Chris had a background in broadcast journalism with, among others, the BBC and was always the cynic. His humour was incisive but always relevant. We are told, that Chris died suddenly while on a mission to North Africa. I am additionally saddened because I recently helped his son Hugo for an academic project.
Chris was 56 and is survived by three children and his wife. Chris, we will miss you.
