Women are series

Women are is a series of films about women, their challenges, their leadership. Women are began as a way to sensitise populations worldwide to the root causes of HIV and AIDS vis a vis women. At the time, it was becoming alarmingly evident that women were becoming the hardest hit in this pandemic. The film drew international acclaim. It has been shown on campuses worldwide, on Discovery Channel and on dozens of television stations and networks. By popular demand, we - mondofragilis network and our partner and coproducer the World YWCA - decided to invest in a second and perhaps third film.

Episode 1

This 52-minute documentary takes us to Namibia, Kenya, Washington DC and Geneva in search of the root causes of HIV and AIDS vis a vis women. Many more details can be found in the film's article.

Episode 2

We seek to raise the visibility of women’s solutions to the global AIDS crisis. Coproroduced by the World YWCA and Mondofragilis, the 70-minute documentary brings together women leaders from all backgrounds and walks of life to identify and promote practical solutions to the AIDS epidemic. Exploring issues such as reducing HIV infections among women and girls, addressing community stigma and discrimination, and sustaining funding and visibility of AIDS initiatives, Women are 2 aims to stimulate thinking among audiences worldwide to find local solutions to the epidemic. It includes a think tank with global women leaders, a public forum focused on finding solutions, and interviews with women working at the heart of some of the most affected communities. Women are 2 is an investment in women as solution-providers.

The film features heavyweight opinion leaders and experts such as the Honorable Mary Robinson, ex-President of Ireland and High Commissioner for Human Rights. Ex-UNAIDS Deputy Directory Kathleen Cravero, the Deputy President of South Africa, the ex-President of the Malaysian AIDS Council and other leading experts. It includes footage shot in Geneva and Kampala. It is current, it is dynamic and it is young.

Women are 2 will be pre-released during the XVI International AIDS Conference to be held in Toronto, Canada 13-18 August 2006 and officially launched for World AIDS Day 2006.
